Rice art originated in Turkey and India. The artisans would inscribe messages or names on a single grain of treated and polished rice. In many Oriental cultures, rice is a symbol of prosperity, fertility and blessings. Rice, being the staple food of such cultures, is handled with respect because it nourishes the body and therefore sustains life.
